Reading fluency

Reading accurately, at a reasonable pace, with natural phrasing.
Fluency is not speed. It is the state where decoding takes little effort, leaving capacity for meaning, often called automaticity (LaBerge and Samuels, 1974).
Common practices are rereading the same passage, echo reading after an adult, and taking turns aloud.
In early English, word level fluency comes before sentences: when known words come quickly, sentences get easier.
