Selling straight from brand to consumer without a middle channel, typically through your own store.
A marketplace lends you traffic in exchange for fees and customer data. D2C is the reverse: you must create traffic, but you keep the data and control price.
They are not exclusive. A common sequence is validating on a marketplace first, then moving repeat purchase products to your own store.
The deciding numbers are repeat rate and order value. For a one time purchase, the cost of running your own store often exceeds the gain.
