How KOTRA describes ViewVibe
KOTRA introduces the page as a place for 『innovative cases that create new business value with KOTRA public data and lead the way into global markets』. Its entry for ViewVibe reads:
ViewVibe is a marketing intelligence solution for small businesses and founders. It offers around 20 services so that a company can research a market, find creators and produce ad content without a dedicated marketing team.
Which KOTRA public data ViewVibe uses
KOTRA groups the usage into four areas.
- Market analysis: overseas market news, the product database and export recommendation data are used to read demand by country and rank promising markets.
- Regulation and certification: country profiles, overseas certification data and import restriction data flag mandatory certifications, anti-dumping measures and tariff risk in advance.
- Risk management: trade fraud cases and news briefs warn about transaction risk and local trade changes.
- Strategy: market entry strategies and business trip materials provide a country by country roadmap.
Core features such as company research, market research and AEO optimisation call KOTRA APIs to analyse overseas market information, and every service is built on verified public data.
The same country, a different code at every agency
Public data is already open. The hard part comes next, because each agency names the same thing differently.
Korea Customs Service trade statistics record a country as a two letter ISO code. KOTRA datasets arrive with Korean country names. Products are the same story: customs uses a ten digit legal commodity code, while KOTRA news and certification records mix four to ten digits. Left alone, 『베트남』 and 『VN』 are two different countries.
Most of the work behind ViewVibe went into reconciling those systems.
- Country codes: KOTRA's list of 99 countries is the authority, with 247 Ministry of Foreign Affairs country names and around 130 spelling aliases layered on top. Country mapping on the file datasets reaches 100%, and 97.6% of country names in KOTRA news match automatically.
- Commodity codes: the 13,205 legal customs commodities are the master, and KOTRA's HS codes are matched at the four digit level where the two systems meet.
- Sectors and forms: industries in the overseas company directory are grouped into 12 categories plus Korean Standard Industrial Classification divisions, with four entry types and four investment types. A block of 3,864 rows whose columns were shifted in the source file was corrected separately.
Once the systems line up, entering one product brings the countries with demand, the certifications required, the restrictions in the way and the transactions to watch onto one line.
An answer invented by AI never reaches the screen
Legal commodity names look nothing like everyday language. Searching 『선크림』 (sunscreen) returns silver wire; 『라면』 (instant noodles) returns latex. So we do use AI to translate consumer words into commodity codes.
We just never use its answer as given. A language model can invent a plausible code. ViewVibe checks every code the model proposes against the customs master, keeps only codes that actually exist and discards the rest. Only codes that pass are added to our term dictionary, so asking the same thing again is answered directly, without the model.
Company data works the same way. A company is pinned down by its business registration number rather than its name, and the AI summary only ever receives facts that have already been confirmed. Accuracy comes from the data, not from the model.
Two datasets KOTRA sent us directly
Alongside the 11 datasets we pull through public APIs, KOTRA shared two more as files. These are not the kind of records you can simply buy.
- The overseas trade fraud case database: 1,176 cases filed by KOTRA trade offices, received between 2015 and 2026, with seven fraud types and whether the loss was prevented or attempted. It shows which methods appear in which countries, as statistics rather than anecdotes.
- The directory of Korean companies operating abroad: seven biennial editions from 2012 to 2024, 77,641 rows in total. Fourteen years of which Korean companies entered which countries, in which industries.
The originals read like documents written for people. Only after resolving country aliases into ISO codes, splitting out industries and repairing 3,864 rows whose columns had shifted in the 2012 file did they become something searchable. They went live on our screens on September 29, 2026.

What ViewVibe is
A set of tools that lets small businesses and founders research markets and produce advertising without a marketing team. There are four groups.
- Market analysis: global trade analysis, export diagnosis, commercial district analysis, competitor ad analysis, Naver trends and an economy dashboard.
- Ads and content: AI ad generation, image upscaling, creator search, YouTube trends and QR code generation.
- Business support: government programme search, a policy calendar and public event search.
- Industry data: sector specific tools.
Trade analysis combines Korea Customs Service trade statistics with KOTRA data. As of September 2026 it holds 10.37 million customs trade flow records covering January 2020 to August 2026, along with 11 KOTRA datasets.

Is this a competition award No. The KOTRA page carries two things. One is private sector use cases, the other is the winners of the 14th Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy public data competition. ViewVibe appears in the first part, as a private sector use case.

Can the AI give a wrong answer Commodity codes proposed by a language model are checked against the customs master, and anything that does not exist there is discarded. The numbers on screen are not produced by AI; they come straight from public data.
What comes next
Reconciling systems never really ends. Merging our country masters into one, widening the consumer term dictionary and processing the newest KOTRA files are all running in parallel. Company research now pins a company down by its business registration number, joining national pension workplace records with Financial Supervisory Service filings.
